FAQ – ANN MARGRET LINDELL’S GRANT FOR YOUNG PRINTMAKERS
Question: How old can I be to apply for the grant?
Answer: The grant is intended for young artists working in printmaking, no older than 40 years. You can apply the same year you turn 40.
Question: What is meant by “graphic expression”?
Answer: “Graphic expression” refers to your artistic practice involving one or more graphic/printmaking techniques as a central element. A graphic work may result from a process that includes both analog and digital techniques. It can be part of installations where print meets spatiality, or stem from artistic research—e.g., around concepts such as reproduction, multiplicity, originality, or the relationship between image and technology. If you're unsure, you can review previous recipients in the Archive.
Question: What does “active in Sweden” mean?
Answer: Currently, the grant primarily targets young printmakers whose artistic practice is connected to Sweden. This could involve education, exhibitions, or other ways in which your artistic work is carried out in Sweden.
Question: Can I apply if I’m a student?
Answer: Yes, students are eligible to apply.
Question: Can I apply for the grant multiple times?
Answer: Yes. If you haven’t received the grant before, you're welcome to reapply as long as you meet all the criteria.
If you have received the Ann Margret Lindell Grant before, you may apply again after five years, provided you still meet all criteria.
Question: How do I present collective works or collaborations with multiple contributors?
Answer: You may apply as a group or as collaborators. Provide the names of all contributing individuals, explain how the collaboration is organized, and describe each person's role. Instead of individual CVs, list the joint projects you've completed. Otherwise, the same application rules apply as for individual applications, and all contributors must meet the grant’s eligibility criteria.
Question: Can I include multiple images if one image doesn’t adequately represent my work?
Answer: Yes. You are to reference five artworks (5). To fairly represent different kinds of works—e.g., installations or image series—you may attach up to three (3) pages of images per artwork. Be sure to label all images with the reference number (1–5) in your PDF, so they can be matched with the correct title and information on the application form. You may also submit video material as an alternative.
Question: Should the entire application be submitted as a single PDF file?
Answer: Yes. To simplify processing and assign each applicant an individual tracking number, you must merge all materials into a single PDF. The final file should include:
- Completed application form with your and your works’ details
- Reference images of five (5) artworks, max 3 pages per work, or a link to video content
- A complete CV that outlines the focus and scope of your artistic work
If you don’t have software to merge PDFs, there are free tools online. Name your file: firstname_lastname.pdf.
Question: What is the maximum file size for the application?
Answer: The final merged PDF file must not exceed 20 MB. This ensures it can be sent without issues via standard email services.
Question: Can I include a link to an external file-sharing service in my application?
Answer: No. All application materials must be included in the PDF, as instructed. Links to external download services may break, and the jury will not request missing materials.
Question: Do I have to submit 5 work samples?
Answer: No. A smaller number of work samples is also acceptable. However, submitting more allows the jury to better evaluate your artistic practice.
Question: Can I change or add to my application after submitting it?
Answer: No. If you need to make changes or additions, you must submit a new, complete application before the deadline (1:00 PM). The jury will consider only the most recently submitted version. Mark the email subject with “revised application”.
Question: How do I know if my application was received?
Answer: You will receive a reply email confirming that your application has been received by the jury.
Question: How will my application be reviewed?
Answer: The entire application will be reviewed digitally.
Question: Who evaluates the applications?
Answer: A small jury appointed annually by an artistic council assesses the applications. The jury collectively possesses extensive expertise in the visual arts and printmaking. Each year, one member from the council also sits on the jury. The jury members are announced via Grafikens Hus channels each spring.
Question: When will I receive a response to a question about the application?
Answer: The artistic council responds to questions as time allows and will get back to you as soon as possible during the process.
Question: What happens if I receive the Ann Margret Lindell Grant?
Answer: The chair of the council will contact you after the jury has made its decision. The council usually organizes a grant ceremony in November where the recipient is announced, and your participation is encouraged. After a year, the council asks recipients to report how the grant was used.
Question: Does the jury avoid conflicts of interest?
Answer: Yes. The council actively works to prevent conflicts of interest at all stages of the decision process. Jury members do not handle applications where conflicts exist; they are replaced by unbiased experts in such cases.
Question: How does the jury handle my personal data?
Answer: The personal and contact information you include is necessary to verify your eligibility and to contact you if selected as a recipient. This data is only stored as long as necessary for this purpose. For those selected, the council appreciates being granted the right to use your personal data in accordance with Grafikens Hus's legitimate interest to inform about the Ann Margret Lindell Grant. Their data protection policy, updated per GDPR, is available on the Grafikens Hus website.
